The Butterfly Effect

The butterfly effect is said to when a butterfly flaps its wings, it might create tiny changes in the earth's atmosphere, that may alter the path of a tornado, delay, accelerate, or even all together prevent the occurrence of the tornado in a certain location. When the butterfly effect is talked about in popular media it is dealing with time travel, usually inaccurately. According to the actual theory it says that history could be "changed" at all(so that one is not invoking something like the Novikov self-consistency principle which would ensure a self-consistent timeline), the mere presence of the time travelers in the past would be enough to change short-term events and would have an unpredictable impact on the distant future. Therefore, no one who travels into the past could ever return to the same version of reality they came from the first time, and wouldn't be able to go back.
Think about what would have happened if someone went into the past and prevented Hurricane Katrina from ever happening, our world would be a lot different. Think to your self what would happen if butterflies disappeared? Children of all ages would be worse off. There would also be no more flowers, and more species would become extinct, due to that everything is connected. That being said, a Harvard Biologist predicts that if things don't change, a half of all plants & animals will be extinct by 2100. Also, 7 in 10 biologists believe that mass extinction poses a much dire threat to humans than Global Warming does, and they believe that we are in the midst of the sixth extinction event. Technology can help us buy time and help protect us from adverse conditions and even reverse some of the damage.
I think that it is sad to hear the human life will be extinct, from earth soon. Some descendant's of prehistoric animals are still around and will probably outlive humans. Some people don't even care though, since they won't be here on earth and it won't affect them personally. But what the article is saying is that we brought this on ourselves, by all our luxuries and advances in technology that we can't live without. Our generation has this attitude that they don't care about anything that doesn't affect them personally, so they won't do anything to help our planet now and don't care what is to come of earth or our species.

DNA Test Gives Students Ethic Shocks

I think that it was interesting how it can be found out what your genetic make-up consists of. I also liked how some people thought they knew their cultural background and they found out that they weren't not only black, but also asian and white to. If they offered this test here I know I would want to take it to find out more about my genetic make-up. All I know about my background is that basically that I am everything ,but Italian and latina. Also, I am not that sure of what percent I am of my background. In Conclusion, I think that many people would invest in a DNA test to find out their own cultural background.
